Whether you have a work material in the back, or even luggage, if you're hauling people around, things like that, and if that's your case, you know, when you're pulling a trailer, you want those lights to work, that way you're safe and legal. And using a kit like this is going to allow you to plug into your trailer and get everything powered up. more

Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Express Van

Rob: Hey, everybody. It's Rob here at etrailer.com and today we're going to be taking a look at the Tekonsha T1 vehicle wiring harness on our 2019 Chevrolet express van. Now, our Tekonsha wiring is going to give us a four-pole flat trailer connector. It's one of the most common trailer connector aside from the seven pole connector, and our four pole is going to give us all of our light functions so we can safely and legally get down the road, like our tail lights, our turn signals and our stoplights. Trailer wiring is good for more than just trailer lights, there's a lot of accessories that go into our hitch that use lights, and most of them have a four-pole trailer connector on the back. It's a lot easier to plug into the trailer connector here than trying to splice into factory wiring, having to cut wires and deal with all that. But speaking of installation, that is the really nice thing about our Tekonsha wiring, there is no cutting or splicing of the factory wires, it's just going to use a simple T-connector that's going to plug in line with our tail lights and it's going to get the signals that we need sent out to our trailer. Now, our Tekonsha wiring is actually designed to stay on the inside of the van until we're ready to use it. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Express Van

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Express van, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the T1 vehicle wiring harness with four hold flat trailer connector. Part number 118392. This is what our wires look like when they're fully installed. They're going to stay on the inside of our van at all times until we're ready to use it, when we can lay it out and the weather stripping on the door is soft enough that it's not going to damage our wire, but then when we close the door we still have plenty of wire to hook up to our trailer, and we're ready to hit the road. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's show you how we get it installed. To begin our installation, we're going to open up the doors to our van, and if we move to the inside, and we go right behind our tail light, we'll find our wiring right here. Now we're here on our driver's side, and we're going to look for a plug right here, right behind our tail light. We're actually going to take this orange tab here, and we're going to pull it out, so it'll unlock our socket, and then we're going to go ahead and remove the plug from the socket, and if you need to, you can take a flathead screwdriver and actually pop the socket out from the wall so you have a little bit more room to work with. Now, we can go in and push down on our tab to release our socket. Now, if we find our wiring harness, or yellow/brown end, and we're going to connect the female and the male, and connect them into each other, making sure that locks into place. more

When we're ready to hook up to our trailer, we just back up to it, couple it to our hitch, undo our dust cap, plug our lighting into it, and now we're ready to go. Now here's what our wiring kit comes with. Most importantly we have the trailer wiring itself. I guess it's a four pole flat connector, so we can tow a trailer and have all the required lighting functions, as needed by law. Have a converter box here, which isolates our tow vehicle from the trailer, so if the trailer has a short, we don't have to worry about our vehicle's electrical systems being damaged. We have some terminal grease here to use on our connections inside the vehicle, and some zip ties to secure wiring up. more

We also have our standard 4 pole flat here for when we're towing trailers that have less basic features, and just have standard running lights, and turn signals, and brake lights. We have these nice dust covers to help keep our connectors free of moisture, dirt, and corrosion. Now that we've gone over some of the features of our Hopkins connector here, we'll go ahead and show you how to install it. We can grab our factory wiring which is tucked up under the frame a little bit on the left side of the vehicle, and pull it on down. Normally, there's supposed to be a protective cover over here that you remove before you make your connection, but our van had already had a tow package on it at some point in time, and it was removed before the new owner got it. Now we'll drop our wiring through the included bracket like so. We'll line it up in position, and we're going to take a paint marker here, and mark where our holes are going to be in our bumper, where we're going to secure this to, first. more
